As 2025 comes to a close, we expect you’ll be reflecting on the short-form content you posted this year. And, because it’s inevitable, we also expect you’ll be looking for ways to up your content creation game in 2026. Instead of introducing a whole new content pillar or reinventing your social media strategy, you should start small!

You might think you have to reinvent the wheel in 2026, but the key to making great short-form video isn’t starting over. It’s taking the base you have and making tiny tweaks. For one, it’s less work. And for another, you’re not starting from scratch and relearning how to create.

In this article, we’ll be sharing 10 easy changes you can make to improve your short-form content.

1. Front-Load Value 🥇

Contrary to popular opinion, it’s better to share the payoff of the video early. People are more likely to stay when they get something immediately. In this format, share the tip or reveal and then expand on it later in the video. They get what they want right away, but you’ll share even more value if they continue listening.

2. Use Trend Formats, Not Topics 🧠

It can be easy to dismiss a trend that doesn’t 100% fit your niche. But the audio, pacing, structure, or style can fit with anything. Next time you see a trend, figure out the basic element and see how you can make it work for your content.

3. Fast Pacing 🏃

Cut out unnecessary pauses and keep your edits snappy. Fast pacing keeps your audience engaged and makes your videos more exciting. It’s easier to watch a video with tight transitions than its long-winded counterpart.

4. Utilize Eye-Catching Text 👀

This can go one of two ways. Either use bold, easy-to-read fonts or write titles that stop viewers as they scroll. Both will capture your audience’s interest and help them stay engaged from hook to end card.

5. Use SEO-Keywords 🔍

Okay, this one can be a little tricky, but it will help you so much. Use SEO keywords and research in your content to ensure you’re reaching the right audience. What keywords or phrases would they search for to find your content? Use them in your captions or videos.

6. Interrupt Patterns 🛑

Change the cadence of your video. Zoom in or out, add a fun sound effect, change the camera angle, or even insert a funny reaction meme. This shows off your style and personality, and adds visual interest. And that interest will keep your audience…well, interested. This is a great way to spice up a video where you’re just sitting there, talking to the camera.

7. Mark New Sections 🗂️

Split your video up into different sections and use on-screen text to mark them. Text like “step one,” “here’s the trick,” or “my social media secrets” helps guide the viewer and holds their attention. Plus, if they’re not interested in one section, they can easily scroll until they find the one they are interested in.

Skeptical it will work? Look at this article! It’s broken into multiple sections, with text clearly telling you what each section is about. It makes articles easier to digest, so it will 100% make the video easier to digest too.

8. Make Sure the Music is Balanced 🎶

Spend a little extra time picking out and adjusting the volume for your video. Make sure that you can clearly hear yourself over it. It’s so easy to ruin a great video by having the audio too loud. Put on your headphones and play around with the volume until you find the right mix.

9. Ask a Micro-Question 🤏

At the end of your video, ask a quick question. Something as simple as “Would you try this?” or “Which would you pick?” keeps your viewers engaged and encourages them to chime off in the comments. Plus, it makes your followers feel involved.

10. End With a Loop 🔁

If you can, end your video with a one or two-second clip that loops back into the intro. This increases watch time by easing viewers into an automatic replay and gives the video a little extra flair. From the viewer’s POV, it can be super satisfying to see a video loop.

Bonus! ✨

If you want to optimize your short-form content and see an immediate change, focus on lighting and clarity. Make sure your camera quality and your audio quality are top-notch. Or at least make sure we can very clearly see and hear you.

Long-time readers will be rolling their eyes because we share this tip all the time. But it’s an essential step in leveling up your content creation. Having a sturdy place to set your phone, a well-lit place to film, and maybe even a microphone to make sure your audio is clear.
