We’ll be the first people to admit that trends aren’t the most important thing on social media…but they’re still fun! Whether you’re trying the latest craft or responding to a prompt, trends let you try something new and share a different side of yourself with your followers. The best thing about trends is getting in at the very start of a trend…or making your own!
In this article, we’ll give you five ideas of trend-setting content you can create. These ideas will fit with any niche or creation style: you just need to add your own twist and you’ve started a social media trend!
Celebrate Spring 🌸
Seasonal content’s always the hottest social media trends, so dive into the spirit of spring!
Get Back into Nature 🌱
Everything’s in bloom and the weather’s warming up, so take advantage! Show us what spring looks like in your area and invite your followers to share. Maybe host a picnic and vlog your experience, or take a hike and go Live! Find a way to get into nature and show it off in your content.
Spring Cleaning 🧹
You can even make content out of your yearly clean-out! Many viewers love vlogs or timelapse videos because they want to see the payoff and see how clean the room looks. Plus, watching someone do a huge clean can be really inspiring, and the best videos are the ones that spark a little interest in watchers. It’s also a great way for you to see your progress and may motivate you to finally tackle that back corner of your closet.
Focus on Your Niche 🔍
We’re pretty sure that no matter what your niche is, you’re able to work springtime content into it. Fashion creators can make a video showing some of their favorite spring fits. DIY and crafters could share some of their favorite springtime crafts. Chefs and cooking creators can recreate their favorite springtime recipes.
Highlight/Engage with Followers 🫶🏻
We say it a lot on Clapper, but it’s become clear here and elsewhere that community is king. Find ways to highlight your followers or work with them: even if you only do one or two people, the rest of your community will love to see it!
You could start a new series where you highlight followers at random and show off their content. Try going Live with a new follower each month, or make it a fun Radio series where you chat with five of them at a time.
Not into collaborating? Give your audience the chance to choose which videos you make! Give the three or four options and have them vote in the comments, or have them tell you what they want to see. They’ll be a lot more interested in the content if it was their idea, and people seeing your content for the first time will also be drawn to it. This is a really active community building that people love and your followers will appreciate.
Tell a Story…or Two 📖
Just like cleaning content, story times or video prompts do well because we want to see how they end. They start similarly, but each creator adds their own, unique spin. If the prompt or original story are good, these can kinds of videos can become a trend in a snap.
Storytimes and story-time prompts go around a lot, and creating your own is easy. Start the video with your prompt. “What’s the worst date you’ve been on? Tell me about the craziest thing that happened in your hometown.” Then just share yours! Make sure it’s a good story people will be interested in and that fits with your original prompt.
Instead of a story, try sharing an interesting, easy to answer, open-ended question. “What would you do if you won the lottery? If you could travel to one place for free, where would it be and why?” Ask people to comment their answer, or even Clapback your video!
Play with Nostalgia ✨
We all love nostalgia. It’s comforting to relive some beloved things from your childhood, and there’s actual science behind nostalgia and why it makes us feel so cozy. Best of all, it encompasses a lot! You can make nostalgia content about places you lived, shows you watched, or experiences you’ve had!
The most common nostalgia content you see is creators deep diving into a classic show or revisiting their favorite memories. We’ve all seen the people talking about their favorite snacks from when they were kids, and we all love them, too! Try creating something that will get other people nostalgic and invite them to share their thoughts or create something of their own.
Gated Content 🔐
We’ve seen a rise in exclusive content, and it’s no wonder why. It’s more fun to make content for a more interested, engaged audience, and you have a little more freedom. Not all of your videos have to be paid, exclusive content, but we recommend creating a couple of videos each month.
We also recommend keeping your paid in the niche you’re known for. Your viewers will be more interested if it’s the content they’re already a fan of! Try sharing an introductory video or two for free, then telling them where they can find more. Maybe your Clapper Fam Tiers or an exclusive, paid Group chat? 😉
The fun thing about social media trends is you can never quite predict what will take off. We don’t say that to warn you these won’t work, but to encourage you to post content you’re passionate about! The random hobby you vlog about might take off one day. You may post some silly video that people end up recreating. Anything can be trend-setting!
