Creating Content in Nature This Spring

There’s no better time to create in nature than spring. The sun is out, everything’s in bloom, the weather is perfect, and even the rain seems exciting. But, even though creating outside comes with new opportunities, it also comes with unique challenges and obstacles. In this article, we’ll get you started with creating in nature this spring, including what to keep in mind and some easy content ideas!

Starting to Create in Nature

As always, we’ve got a few questions to help guide you! It’s a wide-open world out there, and it can be overwhelming to decide where to start creating. These questions will help you narrow down your options and plan out what or how you’ll create in nature this spring.

What About Nature Inspires You? 🌟

Why do you want to create in nature? What kind of nature or outdoor setting do you enjoy? Some creators want to take advantage of the pretty scenery and nice weather, and others just like being surrounded by water or plants. Find your specific reason.

How Much Nature Do You Want? ⛰️

Do you want to sit in the pool and talk about your favorite read? Or do you think hiking into the forest to paint sounds good? There’s no wrong answer! But knowing how deep into nature you want to go will help you find the perfect spot. And, depending on the content you create, may limit what you can create.

What’s Around You? Where Can You Go? 🪵

We recommend sticking to areas around you, like parks or fields. Nature preserves are also great spots if you’re lucky enough to live near one! You may be near some woods or even an orchard.

How Can It Fit Into Your Content? 🪴

How will you incorporate nature into your content? Are you just looking for a nice background, or do you really want to be immersed in nature and spring? An artist may want to go paint a landscape in nature, or might just try their hand at flower arranging.

Things to Keep in Mind

Unless you’re dropping into your backyard, you can’t just start creating content. And even if you’re using your own backyard, there’s a couple things you need to be prepared for!

Respect the Environment 🍃

This includes leaving the space as you found it (or even better than you found it!) and making sure you have permission to be there. Avoid damaging plants and disturbing wildlife, pick up all your trash, and stick to designated areas if possible. Also, if you’re filming in an area inhabited by local communities or indigenous peoples, ask for permission if necessary and be respectful of any culture, customs, and traditions in the area.

Plan Ahead 🌞

Look into the area you’re going to film in. Get a good understanding of the space and terrain; try to figure out where you’re setting up before you go. Look at the weather forecast in advance and plan accordingly.

Also, make sure you’re lighting and sound is still decent! Ensure that we can still see you clearly and that there are no (or minimal) problems hearing you. That might mean bringing a small ring light or investing in some kind of microphone. The last thing you want is to spend all day filming content or driving somewhere special only to find the footage is mostly unusable.

Safety (and Legality) First 🫎

It should go without saying, but be safe and obey the law. Be aware of your surroundings and any hazards you may encounter. In nature, that includes uneven or rocky terrain, wildlife, or weather conditions. Also, research the area you’re going to and make sure you know the rules about filming and accessing protected areas.

Leave Room for Adaptation ⛈️

You’ve got to be flexible when working in nature because it’s so unpredictable! You may encounter some unforeseen obstacles, some wildlife you want to avoid, or sudden weather changes. Or you may arrive at your filming spot and realize…it’s not the best! Be ready to adapt and change, and consider it part of the process.

Allergies and Irritants 🪻

It probably goes along with safety, but we thought this deserved its own slot. Be aware of any allergies you have that may be exacerbated by being in nature. And be mindful of any local foliage that may give you an allergic reaction or rash. The very last thing you want is to settle into a pretty patch of leaves and realize you’ve been snuggled in poison ivy.

Content to Create in Nature 🌸

Get inspired by nature. Spend some time in nature and use it as inspiration for art, music, poetry, or something else creative. Vlog the process or share the final results and how it relates to your inspiration.

Take an outdoor adventure. The easiest way to create in nature is to just be in it. Go for a hike or walk, sit by a lake or stream, or look at your neighborhood’s flowers. Take a video showing us your favorite views.

Spruce up your space. Get whatever outdoor area you have ready for spring. String cute lights on your patio, start a small herb garden in your window, or do a good clean and buy some flowers.
