Starting on a new social media platform can be overwhelming! No one gives you a playbook, no one tells you what to do when you join. It’s hard to figure out even the first five things you’re supposed to do on the app.
But at Clapper, we’re all about welcoming creators and helping them understand our app. In this article, we’re sharing the first five things you have to do when you join the Clapper app. Whether you’re looking for your new favorite content creators or hoping to grow your audience, these five first steps will help you start on the right foot.
Start Scrolling (and Commenting!) 🗨️
Before creating content on a platform, you should get to know the community and its content. Each platform has its own personality, and you need to understand how your content will fit. What communities are you wanting to join? Does your style fit with the overall community? Do you want to create on this platform, or are you more interested in consuming content?
While you’re getting to know the content on Clapper, leave a few comments and start interacting! If you see a video you like or join a fun Live, let the creator know. You’d be surprised how welcoming the Clapper community is. Don’t be afraid to say that you’re new to Clapper, too! You’ll start building connections right away, in and out of your community.
Update Your Profile Tags 👑
Profile Tags are a pretty unique Clapper feature. They allow you to add up to twenty customizable tags to your profile, highlighting communities and content you enjoy. There are even tags for your interests outside of content creation!
Not only do they let you fully customize your profile, but you can tap each tag to find a list of other creators using the same tag. Once you have tags on your profile, you’ll be able to scroll through creators with the same interests as you. You can make new friends, find a new content creator, or get a better idea of what’s happening in your niche. Other creators will be able to find your profile, too!
Create an Intro Video 👋
Once you have your profile set up, your tags perfected, and have gotten to know the community, it’s time to film! Start your Clapper career on the right foot with a quick intro video. Create a one-minute video introducing yourself and telling us about your content, then pin it to the top of your profile.

Speaking of @ClapperAcademy, you have to watch some how-to’s. Learning how to use a new app is the ahrdest part of joining, and most platforms don’t exactly make it easy. But we have an entire profile dedicated to helping new users learn how to navigate Clapper.
@ClapperAcademy releases tutorials and how-to’s each week to make sure you get the most out of the Clapper app. Scroll through their current content library and hit follow so you never miss a new video. You’ll also be notified when the next New Creator Live starts! This Livestream is exclusively for new creators (if the name didn’t make that clear enough) and is basically Clapper 101. You can even get your questions answered in real time.
Join Group Chats 🤝
As you start to explore the Clapper app, you’ll see a few creators with a Groups section on their profile. These are Group chats, where they connect with all of their followers and build community! You can join as many Group chats as you want, so while you’re scrolling, see if any of the creators you love have a Group chat.
And don’t be afraid to start your own Group! You can create up to ten Group chats, right in your profile. You can have one for each of your niches, one where you drop sneak peeks of your videos, and even a paid Group with exclusive perks. For more info on Group chats, check out this article.
Not sure where to start with Group chats? There’s no wrong way to start your Clapper journey. Seriously, if you want to come in and go Live right away, that’s great! The main thing is to dive in and connect with the Clapper community, however you want to do that is up to you. But we’ve noticed creators who follow these steps make more friends, have better engagement, and enjoy their time on Clapper more.
So, these don’t have to be the first five things you do…but you’ll be happier if you do.
