M3GAN 2.0 was created to protect, but Jenna Davis wants to inspire.
Welcome to Lights, Camera, Clapper! In our debut episode, we sat down with Jenna Davis, the star of M3GAN 2.0, to discuss her social media success, her horror fame, and her debut album, Where Did That Girl Go? She also dove into M3GAN’s queer-icon status, AI in Hollywood, and her upcoming tour. Check out the full interview on YouTube, or read the highlights below.
We’re recording this interview in Plano, TX, and I know you’re from North Texas originally. What was it like growing up in Texas, and how does it feel to have all of this success under your belt at just 21?
I only spent four years in Texas; I was born in Plano and lived in Frisco until we moved to Minnesota. But all my family still lives in Texas, and a majority of my memories are spent with my family there. I definitely have Texas pride. I love Texas; I think everyone needs an HEB and some good quality Tex-Mex! Doing country music, I give a lot of my ode to country music to being from Texas because I was introduced to it at such a young age.
In regards to my career, I started pursuing this industry professionally when I was nine years old. It’s felt like a marathon and not a sprint. That’s the beauty of this industry; anything can happen at any point, so it’s exciting, but it can also be very challenging when times are slower. It’s a roller coaster, but it’s not one I want to hop off of!
You’re building quite the horror filmography. M3GAN is a horror icon, you were in Lisa Frankenstein, and now you’re in Vampirina! If you could be in another horror franchise, which would it be, and what role would you want?
You know, I love the idea of being murdered! In the last couple of projects I’ve done, I’ve always played the villainous one. The opportunity to be murdered or have some kind of bloody death would be epic. I do a lot of pranks on my YouTube channel, and I’ve used a lot of blood in those. I love playing around with stage blood – it’s, like, the coolest thing and looks so realistic. So I’d love that opportunity.
I’m not the biggest fan of demonic films. Those to me just feel so real and scary, so I don’t think I’d want to do anything in that realm. But the idea of a SCREAM-type of thing, where a killer is coming after everybody, would be really fun to do. And I want to do one of those iconic horror screams that everybody remembers.
Is a collab between Chucky and M3GAN coming soon? Will Annabelle and M3GAN go head-to-head? Check out the full interview for Jenna’s answer.
Your debut album, Where Did That Girl Go?, came out on the same day as M3GAN 2.0! And now you’re gearing up to go on tour! Can we expect to see more of your acting chops in the tour itself?
Funny enough, M3GAN does have a little appearance in the intro of my tour! With my tour, I wanted to make sure that my audience could really get to know me. There are parts of the tour where I sit down and talk; we’re going to bring a couple of people on stage from the audience.
I want to make sure that my audience feels they got the experience they paid for and wanted. I’m super excited! It’s my first time playing with my own band, and we started rehearsals this week. It’s so fun to be able to put everything together: my acting and my memes from the past. We’re just playing into all the stuff that makes me me. I want to inspire other young girls and guys and everyone to embrace who they are. That’s what I want to do with this tour. To celebrate and have fun with what makes Jenna Jenna and what separates me from other artists.
I’m just so excited, and we’re almost sold out, so I’m very grateful for that. That’s insane for my first tour. It feels surreal but exciting – a little nerve-wracking because it’s my first show, I’ve never done anything where I’m the headliner. So I feel pressured, but it’s the butterflies’ pressure. I can’t wait, it’s going to be a blast.
People might not know, but you’ve previously made a name for yourself on social media. What tip do you have for content creators looking to do the same and make a name for themselves?
The biggest thing is consistency. A lot of people give up so fast because they’re not seeing the viewership, followers, and likes they want. And it’s a lot harder to start social media now. There are so many people and so many platforms, and you have to find some way to stand out. And that’s hard, but you have to stay consistent. You’ve got to flood the waters with your content to make sure you get noticed.
There’s more to social media success than consistency – take it from Jenna! Get her full answer on Clapper!
