Resurrect Your Social Media Content Strategy: 7 Important Steps

Struck with fear each time you try to record? Terrified of opening your analytics page? That’s the ghost of your social media content strategy haunting you. It has unfinished business.

Whether you got busy, burned out, or bored, you left your strategy for dead. But it doesn’t have to haunt you for the rest of the year. In fact, we can show you how to raise it from the dead.

In this article, we’ll take you through the seven steps of resurrecting your social media content strategy. And unlike a real seance, you don’t need a medium or a Ouija board.

But we do recommend candles. You’ll see why later.

1. Set Your Intentions 🔮

You can’t go into a seance without knowing what you want. For one, you might summon a demon instead of grandma. But more importantly, the process changes depending on who you’re reaching out to.

The same is true for this. What you want to get from this social media content strategy session will change everything. If you go in without a clear idea of what you want to accomplish, you might end up with a plan that doesn’t work for your needs. Before you start, ask yourself what you want to get out of this session.

The best part: there are no wrong answers! Some of you will just need to generate new video ideas. Others will want to revisit and adjust their overall strategy for the year. You might even need to just review your goals and see how close you are to meeting them!

2. Gather Your Materials 📖

Once you clearly know what you want, start getting everything you need to resurrect your content. For a seance, you’d need candles, a Ouija board, a few friends, and maybe something from the dead person.

Luckily, your necessary materials for social media content strategy are much easier to come by. And way less threatening. Essentially, you want to have everything you used to create your goals or strategy.

A Checklist

What you need will vary depending on how you planned and your goals for this session. But here is a list of common things people use in their strategy.

  • The social media platforms you use.
  • Creator Spaces or other analytics.
  • Spreadsheets you use to track performance.
  • Your content schedule or planner.
  • Notes and scripts for future videos.
  • Your 2025 social media goals.
  • Documents outlining your strategy.
  • Personal brand documents.
  • 2025 vision board.

Grab what you need so you can be ready to dive in. You don’t want to interrupt your flow because you were unprepared.

3. Set the Mood 🕯️

You need to focus. Create or find a space where you can lock in. Schedule out an hour or two if you like to go in-depth. Give yourself fifteen minutes if you work best when you’re rushed. Find a quiet spot in the house or head to a coffee shop.

Don’t be afraid to pretend it’s an actual seance by lighting candles, dimming the lights, and putting on some soothing music. If it helps you focus, why not?

4. Get to Work 👀

Once you have everything you need, you’re settled in, and your candle is lit, you can start the real work. In a seance, that would be asking questions and contacting the spirit.

Social media content strategy isn’t very different. There are just some extra steps.

  1. Review Your Goals. Look at what you wanted to accomplish at the start of the year.
  2. Check Your Progress. Objectively look at what you’ve done so far, including analytics.
  3. Ask Yourself Questions. After you’re up to speed, ask yourself: What’s working? What’s not working? What have you achieved? What do you want to stop, continue, or change?

One big note: don’t judge yourself or be too hard on yourself if you aren’t where you wanted to be. Do all of this work objectively, as if you were helping another creator.

5. See What Arises 👻

This is the fun part… albeit less heart-stopping than waiting for a ghost in a seance. For social media content strategy, this is the creative step!

Ask yourself what is or isn’t working and jot down your answers. If you don’t like something, brainstorm a few solutions or fixes! Let your imagination and creativity run wild. Just be sure to take notes!

If that seems like a lot, you can break it down into three easy categories.

🪄 Replace

Since you know what isn’t working, remove it from your strategy. This could include a content pillar you hate, cross-posting on a platform, or even your filming and editing process. Oh, and your overall goals are included in this. That follower count you wanted to meet? However exciting an idea it is, it might be impossibe. Don’t be afraid to temper your goals.

Generate solutions to these issues. How can you fix whatever’s broken? The more ideas, the better.

🪄 Refresh

Take a look at your content planner. Remove anything that’s not working or that you want to stop. Then start to add in your new ideas. Update your posting schedule or replace that old content pillar with a new one.

This also goes for other materials! If you found that your personal brand needs some changes, be sure to update your deck!

🪄 Research

Take some time to look at creators in your community. Check out a few content creation experts and see what ideas or advice they have. Don’t steal from or directly copy creators, but use them as your creative spark.

Ideally, the idea generation and creative phase should take more time. Don’t limit yourself; spend some time coming up with fresh, fun ideas. You should have more than you need. Just save those for later!

6. Maintain the Circle 🐈‍⬛

Alright, this analogy is loose, but stick with us. In a seance, you have to stay focused and connected. The same is true for social media content strategy. You have to maintain your strategy and growth.

And it’s much easier than you might be thinking.

Create a plan to meet and maintain your new goals. How much time do you need to meet that follower count? What videos will you create for that new content pillar? When do you want to film or edit each week?

Give yourself a clear plan of attack. Knowing how you’re going to start makes actually diving in easier. Just make sure your plan is sustainable!

7. Closing Out 🪦

You can’t just end a seance. There has to be a close-out, where you tell the spirit you’re done and thank them for their help. Similarly, your planning session should have a close-out.

Take some time to review the work you’ve done. Make any last-minute changes or additions. Ensure your social media content strategy is exciting, possible, and clearly outlined. Lastly, plan a follow-up meeting! At this point in the year, make it NYE. That gives this new strategy time to work and lets you compare it to the rest of the year.

Just like a seance, we can’t guarantee the spirit of content creation won’t possess you. Sure, you might suddenly carry around a tripod and ringlight and come up with video ideas so fast you can’t write them all down. But that’s better than being possessed by a demon, right?
