Celebrating Our Roots: Exploring Cultural Heritage on Clapper

At Clapper, there’s nothing we love more than helping creators find their communities. Through in-app events, we encourage creators to explore trending topics, celebrate holidays, and connect with each other. And that includes celebrating the cultural heritage of our creators and amplifying the diverse voices that make up our vibrant community.

We understand the power of being seen and heard, and we believe in the importance of representation. Throughout the years, our platform has taken time to honor a variety of significant cultural heritage months. Our goal is to amplify the voices of this community, educate our audience, and empower creators to share their stories. To date, we’ve hosted three successful in-app campaigns to highlight cultural celebrations: Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and Asian American and Pacifica Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. Let’s dive in to learn more about each campaign!

Black History Month

February is Black History Month in the US, and for the past few years, we’ve hosted month-long campaigns dedicated to celebrating our Black creators and amplifying their voices. We posted weekly video challenges asking creators to share about their heritage and experiences. All they had to do to participate was post their response using the hashtag #BLKHistoryMonth. But our favorite part of Black History Month is Live creator interviews. In 2024, we hosted a creator panel via Livestream, where we sat down with four of our top creators to hear about their stories and experiences. We discussed the role of social media in sharing Black history, Black figures that influenced them, and advice they’d give to other Black creators.

Hispanic Heritage Month

In September 2023, we hosted our first Hispanic Heritage Month campaign – and it was one of our favorites of the year. Our pinata Livestream gift was launched specifically for this campaign, and was a huge hit! Livestream hosts could launch a pinata, and viewers could “hit” (send coins to) the pinata until it burst. Once it exploded, the coins inside would be randomly distributed to the viewers.

But of course that wasn’t the only thing we did to celebrate. We went Live with creators for exclusive musical performances, fitness parties, fiestas, and game nights! To make our game nights extra special, we designed our own set of Lotería cards for partnered creators to use. We also hosted two Hispanic Heritage Month panels, where we sat down with creators to learn about their specific Hispanic heritage and culture. Many of these events were in both English and Spanish so we could connect with and highlight our Spanish-speaking community and introduce them to our English speakers.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

This May, we’re hosting our first-ever Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage event! We’ve released a new hashtag for creators to share their stories and experiences and will launch special Livestream gifts. While this is the first time we’ve hosted our own event, we’ve also connected with local communities. In 2023, Clapper attended the Lone Star Palengke, an event dedicated to celebrating Filipino culture. We helped sponsor the event and came out in full force to take part in this event. You can read more about our AAPI campaign and the Lone Star Palengke here!

As our platform and communities grow, we’re excited to connect with and highlight more communities through in-app events. Or through local, in-person events like the Lone Star Palengke! But these in-app events are only a few of our accomplishments, and we at Clapper plan to continue highlighting all communities and celebrating our creators’ cultural heritage in as many ways as we can. By spotlighting these important events, we aim to create a more inclusive platform where every member feels seen and valued.
