How to Clapback Better

The Clapback feature was one of our first features, and to this day it’s still one of our favorites! It’s the best way to connect with other creators and get in on a conversation. But you can do more than add your two cents or share a video with your audience.

Here are five ways you can (for lack of a more fun turn of phrase) make Clapbacks your bitch.

Creator Highlights 🌟

One of the best ways to use Clapbacks is as a creator shoutout or highlight. It’s easy for you to show explains of their content (it’s literally right there) and clearly links to their original video or account. Not only is this a great way to shout out some of your favorite creators, but it’s good for Clapper Fam Tiers too! All you have to do is find a video you love from one of your supporters, Clapback with the shoutout, and you’re golden.

This could easily become a series, too. Each week, you could Clapback a creator whose content you’re loving. They can be in your niche or not, big or small. Just be sure to share why you love them and why your followers would enjoy their content. Think of all the connections you’ll make!

Clapback Your Old Videos 📼

You’ve come so far since your first videos! Why not take a trip down memory lane? Scroll back and find some early videos for you to Clapback and talk about.

As an example, an artist may Clapback an old video covering the process of creating a piece. The Clapback might be something fun like showing the art piece now or talking about what happened to it. Or they could Clapback that old video and show their new process. Maybe you posted a video a year ago about something that was bothering you. You could Clapback that video sharing how it panned out and if you learned anything from it.

Your old content is a treasure trove of content to repurpose and use as you want. If you’re looking for something quick and easy, take a few scrolls and see what comes up.

Give Advice 🫶

A lot of people turn to social media as an outlet or for advice. Find some videos and share your sage words of wisdom. Not only will the original poster appreciate your input, but your audience will enjoy getting some advice, too. Additionally, the algorithm will push your videos to viewers who might be interested in what you have to say.

Clapback Trains 🚂

Make it extra fun by sharing prompts or questions for your viewers! They can be easy, like “Clapnback this video and tell me your favorite movie,” or more thoughtful, like “Tell me about your favorite high school memory.” The key is to keep your questions and prompts simple. The potential answer can be complex or long, but the question itself should be clear-cut and to the point. This whole idea hinges on viewers knowing exactly what to respond to, so don’t make it hard.

For this, we also recommend splitting up your response and the prompt into two separate videos. This way creators can easily respond to your prompt without having to listen to your entire response.

Contests or Giveaways 🏆

One of the most fun ways to utilize a Clapback is to host a contest! This combines some of the prompts above into a more exciting format with an actual incentive. Create some kind of prompt or question for creators to respond to in a Clapback. It can be something super simple to ensure you get a ton of engagement and entries, or something more involved for your community and niche.

The main thing is that you give creators something to do or respond to in a Clapback. We recommend announcing the contest first, detailing how they enter and what they can win. Then post a video with the actual question or prompt; Clapback that video yourself to show them how it’s done! At the end of the contest, you’ll see all your entrants in the Clapback section of the video. Take it a step further by creating a hashtag.

The best part? Since entrants are Clapbacking your video, the contest will reach even more people and get more entries!

Some Extra Tips 🍿

  • Avoid talking over the video you’re Clapbacking. It’s too chaotic and hard to hear you, and viewers are more likely to scroll.
  • React to the video as it’s going. Nod along, laugh, and generally show that you’re engaged and interested. It’ll keep the audience interested!
  • Give us a timestamp. Since we can skip around in a video, add some small text on the screen to tell us when you start talking.
