Ask all your favorite big creators for their social media strategy advice, and you’ll hear the same two things: stay consistent, and there’s no hack. The (honest) creators are happy to tell you that it’s all about luck. Yes, you can grow your platform and be a successful creator. But there’s no one social media strategy you can follow to take off and become a huge creator. That’s just luck. Right?
Mostly. You can’t make your own luck. (The people playing the lottery know that all too well.) But you can set yourself up for success. There are things you can work into your content to engineer your own luck. Maybe your video doesn’t go viral, but you’ll build up a steady community over time. And if you do get lucky and have a video blow-up, you’ll be able to turn fifteen minutes of fame into a sustainable career.
In this article, we’re sharing four things you can do to prepare for your lucky break. No matter what your social media strategy is, these four tips will help your lucky break last. But first, we have to define luck.
What’s Your Pot of Gold? 🪙

Success varies depending on how you identify it. What is waiting for you at the end of the rainbow? If you got lucky on social media today, what would the outcome be?
For some creators, it’s being able to sell their products. Others are trying to land brand deals or sustainably monetize. You might want to build a huge community of followers. The ultimate goal might be to work as a creator full-time. There’s no wrong pot of gold to find. Just be sure to keep it in mind as you strategize.
Four Leaves of Luck 🍀

Since it’s March, we’ll be breaking down self-made luck into four points. Like a four-leaf clover, the ultimate symbol of luck!
There are four things you need to prioritize to build your own luck. Consistency, community, clarity, and curiosity. Let’s get into each one and how you can use them to create luck.
Consistency 🤞

You’re probably tired of hearing how important consistency is with social media…but it’s the truth. Think of luck and content creation like lottery tickets. Buying one lottery ticket gets you in the race; buying five gives you better chances; buying hundreds catapults you to the front of the line.
The same is true with content. The more videos you have, the more opportunities you have to strike gold.
Beyond sheer luck, algorithms favor creators who actively post and engage. It signals that you’re a reliable content source for their viewers. Your audience will also come to expect your content on their FYP. If they know you post every Tuesday, they’ll seek out your content. Plus, knowing you have to post three videos every week helps you stop overthinking. You have to get out a video, so you don’t have to worry about this specific one being perfect.
Create a cadence you can follow. That might be every day or three days a week. Just find a sustainable schedule you can stick to!
Community 🍻

Your community is the kickstarter for your lucky moment. The algorithm rarely pushes accounts with no followers or engagement. They want to reward creators who spend time on the platform and build connections with other users. Their initial engagement on your video is what will help it – or, in some cases, make it – go viral.
Spend some time cultivating your community and engaging with the community on the app. Your followers will tell you what they like or want to see in the comments; listen to them. And respond, while you’re at it! People prefer places and communities where they feel seen. Build a genuine connection with them, and they’ll keep coming back.
You should also be connecting with the community at large. Go into other creators’ comment sections and engage with them. Look for smaller creators in your niche and leave meaningful comments. You’ll build connections with other creators, which could grow your audience or become a new collaboration.
Clarity

You might think that if you cast a wide net and cover a million different topics, you’ll have an easier time striking gold. But that’s not exactly true. Most creators who have a lucky break have a clear voice. Their unique personality or take is what makes them go viral.
While you might not need a niche, having a content style and your own voice is a necessity. This way, viewers know what they’re getting when they come to your page. Your unique voice will also attract your audience. Go to any niche, and you’ll find hundreds of successful creators. They may have similar topics or interests, but their style and delivery are what keep their audience coming back for more.
Plus, no one can copy your content if it’s 100%, uniquely you.
Curiosity 🎩

This piece of the puzzle is a hill we’ll die on. You’ve heard it from us before, and we’ll say it again. Let your interests guide you. What topics do you consistently find yourself drawn to? Are there any hobbies or passions you want to explore more? This makes creating content more fun and interesting for you, making it more sustainable.
But you’ll find your audience with a lot more ease than you might think. It’s like lighting a beacon or baking an apple pie. Those who know it and like it will find it. And because you share similar interests, they’re more likely to stick around and engage. Plus, the internet is always changing, and you never know when the algorithm will decide your hobbies are the hottest thing.
Your Lucky Creator Checklist 🌈

Now that you know what goes into being a lucky creator, it’s time to put it into practice. This is the foundational work that will help you get your lucky break. And even if you never have a video take the energy by storm, they’ll help you be successful.
- Daily, spend 15 minutes engaging with your community.
- Daily, take a breath and be yourself on camera.
- Weekly, post following your content schedule.
- Weekly, scroll through your community hashtags. Follow some creators!
- Monthly, take a look at the content you’ve posted. Does it align with your niche?
- If you find yourself drifting into a new community, that’s fine! Incorporate it more often.
- Overall, post what you love! Let your interests guide you.
Remember: Don’t Give Up 💚
Even luck isn’t something that always happens on the first try. Sure, some creators go viral on their first video or watch their metrics skyrocket. But for most of us, that isn’t the case. It takes steady work to build both an audience and a collection of content, which will help propel you when the moment strikes.
