Trends in Social Media: What’s Working on Clapper in 2024?

By now we’ve all settled into 2024. Even your favorite platforms: we’ve already seen a couple new social media trends! Social media is fast-paced, and it can be hard to keep up with the trends. And it’s only more difficult when you realize that every social media platform has different trends! Don’t worry, though: you’ve come to the right place.

In this article, we’ll tell you the top five trends we’ve seen on Clapper, discuss why we think they’re doing well, and give you tips on how you can recreate them for yourself!

Social Media Trends Made Easy 📈

Couples or Pairs 👯

We’ve seen a huge rise in couples and duos making content together. The content we see doing the best is comedy, but we we do see some couples making sweeter videos. Couples accounts and online couples have been all over our FYP recently, both and on and off Clapper. Often they’re so different that it can be hard to look at them as one, clear trend and figure out why they’re doing well. But there’s four reasons why we think content like this is trending.

Relatability

Often, these types of videos are very relatable. Even if the viewers aren’t all in relationships, they can relate to the situations! They may have been through something similar in another relationship, or they might think “I’d do that too!”

Double the Comedy

Even if you and the person you’re filming with have similar tastes, you’ll have two view points. Your videos will appeal to a wider audience, and you’ll generate even more ideas than if it was just your humor.

Mom and Dad?

There’s something about cute, fun couples that make us feel snuggly. Maybe it’s the same part of our brain that loves romance novels, or a hope that we can have the same. Viewers might also feel attached to duos or couples; it’s easier to form connections when you can clearly see someone’s dynamic!

How To 🛠️

This trend isn’t ideal for everyone because, let’s be honest, we don’t all have someone we’d love to work with. But, if you’re interested in diving into this style of content, the first thing you’ll need is a buddy. Find someone who has a similar comedic style as you. Or, at the very least, someone you work well with! Think romantic partners, siblings, or even besties. Some creators even pair up with their moms and create content!

Next, brainstorm what you want to cover. This will be easy if you choose to base your content around the specific relationship you have with the person helping you create. Then think of a variety of content categories you could fall into. For a relationship this might be: relationship advice, general comedy videos, date ideas, or vlogs. You can mix and match or stick to one and slowly grow into new areas. Brainstorm ideas that could fit into these.

You may not think of a ton of ideas all at once. For videos like this, you’ll get more ideas as you go throughout life and make note of funny situations you find yourself in. Write them down, get together, and decide which ones you’ll create.

Text Overlay ✍️

Simple videos with text over them have been steadily getting more and more popular across all social media platforms. Usually these are motivational or comedy videos, with creators sitting firmly in one niche. The videos are also quick, paired with an inspiring song or a funny audio. On Clapper specifically, we see a lot of creators using a laughing audio as the background for their jokes.

These videos do well because they’re quick and easy to digest. Social media viewers rarely want to dissect a video to understand it or sit through a long video to get to the punchline. A simple, to the point video will get more engagement. This content makes it easy for viewers to understand, and who doesn’t love that?

How To 🛠️

There’s two very basic elements for these videos: a witty joke or an inspiring quote, and a video of something. For the comedy, a lot of the trending content just has videos of the creators looking at the camera. For inspiration content, you’re looking at mostly inspiring clips of some kind. Usually the whole video is about ten seconds, maybe fifteen if the joke is a little long.

So, for a writer looking to create inspirational content, they’d start filming small clips of them working. They’d get a nice, ten second clip of them typing away on their computer, then come up with a motivational message. For this kind of content, it should be short and broadly applicable, like: “Someday, you’ll be someone’s favorite author.” It’s easy for followers to understand the message of the video, but the message is still meaningful.

These are probably some of the easiest to test out! Just be sure to give proper credit if you use a quote from someone else.

Tutorials 📋

Who doesn’t love learning something new and getting inspired for future projects? Tutorials are always trending on every social media platform. People love to be inspired, to get ideas for future projects, and mostly love seeing the final product. There’s something satisfying about watching an old, abandoned doll house getting turned into a picture-perfect miniature. Even if you know it’s something you’ll never sit down and do yourself, tutorials can be relaxing and satisfying.

How To 🛠️

Tutorials are a little harder to start doing. You’ve got to have something you’re passionate about and are really good at. No one wants mixology lessons from someone who’s just had their first shot.

Well, it would be a very funny comedy video, but not a great tutorial video.

For tutorials, you want to start with something you’re skilled at. Like a woodcutter teaching us how to sand and repolish wood, or a musician taking us through their songwriting process.  These are often more in-depth, and either longer or made up of a few different videos. You’ll want to clearly show what you’re doing, with a voiceover explaining how you’re doing it. Make it easy for your viewers to follow along and understand. This will take a lot of time, so it may not be for everyone! But the time you spend on it will definitely be rewarded.

Video Challenges 📹

Clapper has been posting more and more weekly or daily video challenges recently, and a lot of creators are sharing their responses! Our favorite so far was the #BeYouChallenge, where we shared seven prompts encouraging creators to share more about themselves.

These challenges are a fantastic way to help your audience get to know you. They’re also easy! Clapper’s doing half the work by coming up with the topic, and all you have to do is press record.

How To 🛠️

Like the text-overlay videos, these are super easy to create! All you have to do is follow @Clapper or check the landing pages in your Explore page. We’ll post the prompts in both places. You can either Clap Back the video and give your answer at the end, or post a separate video about it.

As an extra note, just make sure you’ve spent a little time thinking about your answer before you record. You want to make sure you’re giving solid and clear answers, since this is the main point of your video!

Authenticity ✨

Is this cheesy? Yes! Does that make it any less true? No!

Clapper is all about self-expression, and our community really values authenticity. Creators who are themselves and create content they’re passionate about always do well. Even a quick, casual scroll through the FYP will pull up creators making trend-defying videos about the things they love. Whether that’s your art, hiking and nature, recipe videos, or movie reviews, the thing you’re passionate about are always trending.

In Conclusion 🎁

Social media trends come and go – often. While it’s fun to follow them and they can help you connect with a larger audience, they don’t have to be everything you create. And you especially don’t have to create for every single trend.

Don’t ignore trends, but experiment with ones that match with your content and creation process. Find the trends that match your style or niche, and will mesh well with how you create content already. If there isn’t a trend that matches with your style, don’t worry: another will come along in a week, and it might be the perfect fit.
