Consistency is Key: the Ultimate Social Media Strategy

We say it all the time: the key to social media success is consistency. And it’s not just us! If you were to ask an influencer or content creator their number one tip for new creators, it would be consistency. Algorithms are more likely to push content from creators who are invested in the platform. And if you have a set schedule, there are more videos to push. If more videos are being pushed more often, they’ll reach a wider audience.

But we’ve never broken down how to be consistent. In today’s article, we’re sharing our top tips for staying consistent while posting on social media.

Start Small 🤏

Just like any other goals, start with a small goal. So, instead of posting a video every day for a year, start with every day for a month. If that’s too much, try posting a video five times a week instead. Don’t worry about what you’ll post or how much engagement it will get. Just focus on posting something daily (or whatever your goal is)!

Consider the Process 🧩

A lot more goes into a video than just posting it. You have to come up with the idea, potentially outline a script, film the video, edit it, and then post it. Suddenly, posting daily might sound a little tricky! When starting to post daily or more often, keep in mind how much goes into one of your videos. Not only will you have a more tangible plan of action, but you’ll also have a much better idea of what you can do.

Find Time ⏰

Once you know your goal and the process involved in posting a video, look at your schedule and find time in your day to post on social media. This can be spread out throughout the day or done all in one sitting. You also don’t have to do it at the same time every day! Write out your daily or weekly schedule if you need to and literally find the time to post.

Set Reminders 🚨

Anyone on Duolingo knows how powerful a reminder is. Sadly, you can’t create a sentient owl to vaguely threaten you and fake their own death. But you can set a few alarms on your phone! If you want to record and post at different times, be sure to set separate reminders for them, too.

Get Inspired 🔮

Unless it’s what you want to post, don’t worry about chasing trends or what might get views. Start with content you’re interested in. You don’t even need a niche at this stage, though having one (or two) won’t hurt. Once you’ve got consistency down, you can start looking at what gets the best engagement, how you can include trends in your videos, and what other content you might want to create.

Reward Yourself 🍪

Consider two people at work asking you to do something. One gives you the assignment, and the other gives you the assignment and offers you a gift card if you complete it early. Which are you going to feel more motivated to work on?

The same applies to something that feels like work. Set a milestone – like posting every day for thirty days – and reward yourself when you meet it. Even if it’s something small, like your favorite take-out meal, or something big, like a new video game, give yourself a tangible thing to work toward. Having something exciting at the end will keep you motivated, even if you don’t feel like posting.

Give Yourself Grace 🧡

Nobody’s perfect, and there’s always a bump in the road; you’re bound to miss a day. And that’s fine! Things happen, life is busy, and one missed video isn’t the end of the world. In fact, it isn’t even the end of your challenge! If you miss a day, just try again tomorrow. Don’t worry about making it up (unless you want to). Just tell yourself it’s alright and start again the next day.

Consistency isn’t just the key to social media success. It’s the first step to hacking the algorithm! Check out our article on hacking social media to learn what makes the algorithm tick.
