Tips for Getting Verified on Clapper

One of the questions we’re asked most often is “how do I go viral?” Whether it’s in our Instagram DMs, in the comments under one of our videos, or during one of our Livestreams, we see it everyday.  We’ve talked about the verification process in a few past articles, but the blog has never shared tips for how to get verified.  In this article, we’ll be sharing top tips from the Clapper Team to help you get verified.

But first, let’s review the qualifications.

Getting Verified on Clapper 🏆

There are 2 levels of verification: Creator and Blue Check Verification. You’ll need to get your Creator Verification first, which highlights the type of content you create on Clapper.  To apply for Creator Verification, you will need:

  • at least 3k followers
  • at least 1 video over 3k views
  • at least 7 videos created in the last 30 days

To apply for Blue Check Verification, you will need:

  • at least 30k followers
  • at least 10 videos in 30 days
  • at least 5k average video views in the last 30 days
  • be continuously creating original and high-quality videos
  • to already have your Creator Verification. You cannot skip Creator Verification and go to Blue Check.

To submit these applications, you’ll go to your Creator Space in your profile. You can read more about Creator and Blue Check Verification in our Verification 101 article.  Now, let’s move into what you can do to get to this point!

Engage With Your Community ✅

The best way to grow on Clapper is by engaging with the community – both the one you’re building and the community at large.  It’s called social media for a reason, so don’t be afraid to get out there and be social.  Find and follow people in your niche, comment on their videos, join Groupchats that interested you – meet new people and build new connections.

One big thing we recommend is that creators follow people.  We see a lot of people struggling to meet their growth and content goals that are not following anyone on the app.  Make sure that you’re finding content you enjoy and following creators you like.

Also, make sure that you are responding to comments!  This is something we also see a lot, and it’s a great way to grow your community.  Respond to the comments on your videos even if it’s with something quick like an emoji.  It will boost the engagement on your video and show that you are connected to your community.  While we recommend responding to as many as you can, if you can only do a handful that’s fine too.  Just be sure you’re going back, building relationships with followers, and showing that you’re invested in the content that you create.

And a response on a comment feels like appreciation, and who doesn’t love that?

Create High Quality Videos ✅

You may meet the other requirements for verification on Clapper, but if you don’t have high quality videos you will not be verified.  Not everything in your video has to be perfect or look like it came from a movie theater – far from it!  Your videos can be off-the-cuff and imperfect and still get you verified, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind as you’re filming.

Camera quality

If you have a camera phone, your camera is probably perfect to film on!  Just make sure that your video is clear: we need to be able to see you and what you’re doing.  Try to avoid having grainy, unfocused, or shaky videos.  Viewers should not struggle to see the focus of your video.  If you can, invest in a tripod or set up a makeshift stand to set your phone.  This will make it easier for you to film and instantly improves the quality.  And it goes without saying, but do not film on a broken or really old camera.

One part of camera quality that often gets forgotten is the lighting.  Make sure that you are in a well-lit space.  Or, if your videos calls for you to be in a darker area, make sure there is enough light on your face that we can see you.  Videos perform better when there is someone clearly in it, both from the audience and algorithm perspective.  And you don’t have to go out and invest in expensive lights, either.  Just a lamp, some sunlight, or even overhead lights will work just fine!

Sound

Your audience has to be able to hear you.  Again, you don’t need to purchase a microphone or go all out; just make sure you’re in a quiet area and speaking clearly.  Try to reduce any background noise or static if possible – so have your camera set up and in place before you start recording.  Constantly moving your camera while you’re recording and not holding it steady can cause interference.  If you add music to your video, double check that we can hear you speaking over it!

Post Regularly ✅

Across platforms, no matter what social media you’re on, everyone recommends that you post at least once a day.  Algorithms (and followers) favor creators that post consistently.  Even if you can’t post every single day, have a pattern or routine: try posting every other day or every 2 days.  Anything reliable will help!

Create Original Content ✅

We don’t mind that you want to share content you’ve already created.  Why shouldn’t you?  You spent the time on it and you’re proud of it!  But we do have some suggestions.

Don’t flood your feed with just reposts.  Create some original content unique to Clapper.  It can be the same kind of content you’ve created before, but make sure it’s original, unique content.  If you’re feeling brave, you can also dip your toe into the water and create content that fits the overall Clapper style.  But either way, don’t just reshare your content and flood your profile with old videos.  Be sure you’re introducing something new for your audience!

One very important this is to not include watermarks in your videos at all.  Our algorithm does not push videos with watermarks out, so they will not make it to the FYP.

Clearly Choose Your Niche ✅

When you apply for Creator Verification, you’ll be asked to choose a niche or community you fall into.  There’s a wide-range to choose from and your content should fit into one of these buckets with no problems.  If you have any documents showing that you have experience in that area (a culinary license for a cooking channel, etc) be sure to keep them handy as well.  You’ll need them for your Creator Verification process.

Having a niche will also make growing easier.  People with similar interests will find your page and your content much more quickly if you’re consistently posting in a specific community.

Be Yourself! ✅

Make sure that no matter what content you’re posting, you’re making it personal.  On Clapper, we care about you and your story; our community wants to get to know you.  Don’t be afraid to share your story, tell us more about you, or really connect with your audience.  The personal touch is the best touch!
